Oxford's group of colourful period Chevrolets is really flaming good

Hot, hot, hot!

The latest offering from Oxford Diecast in its 1/87 scale American range is this stunning 3-piece collection of extravagantly decorated Chevrolets from the 1950s and 1960s. As you can tell from the product reference code, this is the company's first set at this scale and what a way to start.

All three models have been previously released, but not with these paint jobs.

First up is the Chevrolet Stepside Pick Up from 1965 and it certainly lives up to the Hot Rod name, decorated in black with orange and red flames leaping up the bonnet and sides and a mass of surrounding chrome. It is finished off with a realistic number plate, registered in Texas as 7Z 3894.

Second in the line-up is a 1961 Chevrolet Impala Convertible, which appears in a vibrant metallic purple and bright yellow colour scheme with metallic purple-filled chrome side flashes down either side of the car- you would certainly see this coming! The top is down to reveal a silver grey interior. This Hot Rod is registered in Maryland as
KD 23 76. Whitewall tyres add to the period effect.

Completing the colourful trio is a 1957 Chevrolet Nomad  in a two-tone blue flamed livery with a white roof, bright blue interior and decorated with pale blue ‘flames’ licking along the bonnet and sides of the car to contrast with the mid-blue bodywork. The chrome tail fins, bumpers and other exterior trim are all picked out in silver and the car is registered in Colorado with the registration number 39-1415. This car also features period whitewall tyres.

Oxford's American range has been going from strength to strength recently with some excellent new tooling (we can't wait for the new Dodge releases to start coming through, particularly the Charger variants) and this set is a superb idea that really captures the flavour of the US customisation scene back in the day.

The restriction of this smaller scale has not held Oxford back here and the detail to the flames is nothing short of superb. Each of the vehicles is exquisitely finished and together they make for an amazing display that will surely provoke plenty of discussion either on their own or at a drive-in diorama. Now there's a thought...
