What's in the box?

One thing we like almost as much as collecting old toys is helping to solve mysteries surrounding old toys. Without the likes of Sherlock around to solve your collecting conundrums, we're often happy to step into the breach and try to help you with your problematic puzzles. However, recently we came across one that even we thought we wouldn't be able to solve.

Over the past couple of weeks, you've probably noticed the helpful videos we've been posting from YouTube user Toy Polloi. In one he goes through some tips for restoring the classic Dinky Toys Space: 1999 Eagle Transporter, while another gives hints about cleaning those old Star Wars packs to get the looking pristine.

Well, another of the videos on his channel charted his efforts to try and work out what was inside a mail away Star Wars box, without actually breaking the seal. In the '70s and '80s people could send away for Star Wars figures by collecting tokens from other characters. In return they would receive a loose figure in a small white box.

Dave Moss - the man behind Toy Polloi - acquired one of those boxes but it was still sealed. As a result Dave decided to set himself the challenge of finding out what was inside without actually opening it. Unfortunately, as you can see from the videos below, he hasn't had a great deal of success so we decided to take up the challenge.

Thanks to the X-Ray Computed Tomography Facility at The University of Nottingham we're going to able to produce a full 3D image of whatever is inside the box, without breaking that all-important seal. The scan is taking place on 15th October but you can catch up on the story so far in the videos below. Fingers crossed the scan shows it's a Rocket Firing Boba Fett!
