Vectis Auctions - Joe Recchia MOY Collection

The 'Joe Recchia Models of Yesteryear Collection' went under the hammer at Vectis Toy Auctions recently and the unique selection of rare and unusual items - which took 30 years to collect - realised a staggering £123,000!

Built up by keen enthusiast Joe Recchia, there were approximately 4,000 pieces on offer; many of which were one of a kind and pre-production models. There was a huge amount of colour trial models, and although these colour trials are often seen in the Matchbox related books you don't often get the chance to see them on the open market, especially in such variation and quantity.

The item which featured on the catalogue cover: lot No. 435 - a preproduction colour trial No. Y5-3 Peugeot 1907 in pink with a yellow roof sold for £620 against an estimate of £160 - £220.

 
Meanwhile, a number of rare issues sold well above their estimates with buyers eager to snap up the rarities, Lot 366 No.Y4 - 4 - 1 Duesenberg Model  J town car in near mint condition sold for more than double its £1,200 estimate and lot 1475 No. Y13 - 2 Daimler Type A12 sold for an astounding £1,750 from a £150 estimate. All prices include buyers premium.
