Transformers help boost sale

C&T Auctioneers’ Glen Chapman reported a very satisfactory sale on 5 October, which comprised 400 lots with a hammer price of £72,000; with just 7.5% of the lots remained unsold. Amongst the highlights of the sale were the 35 lots of Transformers; something of a collection, these toys are now becoming rather more interesting, if the hammer price of £18,130 (yes, you did read that correctly!) is anything to go by. Other notable lots included a very attractive Schuco Synchromatic 5700 Packard Convertible tinplate car, which was in good condition and came with the original box: this made £380. Finished in pale green with a lovely red tinplate interior, this was yet another example of German engineering at its very best. The Packard (specifically a Hawk) featured seven different actions: gears can be changed via a push button on the dash and there’s a light that flashes each time this is effected. Steering is accomplished via remote wheel and cable. This Schuco model, incidentally, also benefited from “refuelling” via a transformer pump, something that could be purchased separately. Not a common sighting, the price realised was arguably a little on the low side for such a superb example of the car. Elsewhere, Lot 252, a Corgi Gift Set 16, comprising the ever-popular Ecurie Ecosse Racing car transporter in mid-blue with three boxed racing cars, also sold well, reaching £580.
