The September Wallis and Wallis sale comprised almost 1,500 lots and was loaded with impressive collectables
The September Wallis & Wallis sale comprised almost 1,500 lots and was loaded towards diecast, with plenty of Dinky and Corgi models up for grabs.
Britains toys also got a look-in: the winning bid on a Britains Home Farm series Farm Waggon was £80, which was something of a bargain for the set was in very good condition, with only minor chipping evident. The box was also sound, which probably helped the sale. Another good example was lot 1254: this was a superb assembly, featuring The Changing of the Guard, and contained 84 soldiers in all, together with a couple of sentry boxes. In a two-tiered box, the whole was in very good condition and made £480.
However, over double that (£900, to be precise) was the winning bid on a delightful Roundhouse G scale 0-6-2 continental style tender locomotive. This live steam example was beautifully detailed as is normally the case with Roundhouse and was finished in dark green livery. It even came fitted with a running light above the smokebox. It would have graced any large scale loco layout, without a doubt.
And back to diecast: one of the most unusual lots was the Corgi export model of the Commer Police Van. This carried Dutch rubric and was finished in a dark metallic blue. An ex-museum display model, it sold for a healthy £180. Sadly, a lovely little Dinky Streamlined Bus (reference 29b) didn’t find a new home; but a good example of the Corgi Ecurie Ecosse car transporter, complete with three cars and all boxes, did, fetching £260.
