British Transport Classics is introducing the first eight-wheeler to its range of 1/50 scale classic lorry models, an AEC Mammoth Major 8 Mk III in the well-known fleet livery of the London Brick Company. Developed with the help of well-known lorry expert and historian Peter Davies, this is a model of a vehicle which joined the LBC fleet in 1949, lasting in service until 1963, registered GTM 809.
The new AEC joins the two different versions of each of the Bedford OL, Commer QX and Albion Clydesdale four-wheelers already released in the range, offering collectors and classic lorry enthusiasts vehicles not previously available as detailed 1/50 scale models.
As this new model is longer than anything previously produced by BTC, it will feature an ABS chassis for extra strength. Using advanced manufacturing techniques with resin moulding, each model is hand-built, with construction of the separate chassis, platform body and cab as close to the original as possible.
Like the other models in the BTC range, the AEC is highly detailed throughout, featuring separate chrome-plated bright work, including door handles, headlamp bezels and window surrounds. Etched number plates, windscreen wipers and mirrors are also fitted. Particularly noticeable on this AEC model is the very realistic treatment of the iconic radiator grille and right through to the special tailboard, this model is totally faithful to the original.
Available as a limited edition of only 300 pieces, the model is priced at £65, plus £3.50 postage.

A sheeted brick load has also been produced to complement this vehicle which can be purchased separately. This load is fully finished and will also fit other eight-wheeled flatbeds already in collections. Price per load is £8 plus £2 postage. By purchasing the model and load together, there is a combined discount price of £73 instead of £78.50.
