Brand new toy figure releases from William Britain

The 119-year-old toy soldier company, which so celebrates the past, could not let the momentous occasion of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee pass unnoticed. Queen Elizabeth II is only the second British monarch (the other was Queen Victoria) to celebrate 60 years on the throne. She became Queen in 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI.
To commemorate this William Britain has released a special set of figures, ‘The Guards Colours’. The set consists of two beautifully crafted soldiers carrying highly detailed colours, in a limited edition run of 600.
I mentioned WB’s new catalogue and some of the sets in it last month. It also includes new ceremonial sets of guardsmen, musicians and a London Gift Set to give everyone a little piece of London to take home from this summer’s Jubilee and Olympic festivities.
Other new releases include classic gloss figures from the archive and in the Redcoats collection, as well as matte-finish figures from the American Civil War and Napoleonic Wars.
The Zulu War also features in this next batch of collectables, including ‘Desperate Escape’ – British Royal Artillery Gun Team No 1 attempting to escape from a Zulu onslaught (pictured below). This 14-piece set comes complete with six horses, limber, gun, five British soldiers and a Zulu in the midst of pulling one of the British riders off his horse!
WB’s General Manager, Richard Walker, commented: “The new Somme 1916 range with trench sections and figures ‘going over the top’ is one of the most evocative scenes we have ever released.”
