British-based slot racing gurus Scalextric will soon be releasing its award-winning new line of racing sets based on the ever-popular ‘Star Wars’ franchise.

The new Scalextric ‘Star Wars’ range, which took home an award at Toy Fair 2012 for the Death Star Attack set, will include Micro and Start sets, as well as a range of detailed and collectable solo models, all designed to reproduce famous characters and iconic vehicles from the wide and wonderful ‘Star War’ universe.

The inaugural sets to be released in the range will be the Battle of Endor Start Set, which is based on the speeder bike chase scene from ‘Return of the Jedi’, and Death Star Attack, which recreates the climatic battle from ‘A New Hope’.

The Battle of Endor Scalextric Start set features two Speeder Bikes ridden by Luke Skywalker and a Scout Trooper, and comes with a printed track designed to look like the forest of Endor. Produced in 1/32 scale, the ‘Star Wars’ Start set comes with a 4.3 metre track on which to race.

The Death Star Attack Micro set, which has been produced in the smaller 1/64 scale, features Lord Vader’s TIE fighter and Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing. The set features ships with working lights, a track with glow-in-the-dark print and special packaging that doubles as a playset accessory.

The sets are the first items produced as part of a new licensing deal secured by Scalextric’s parent company, Hornby. The three year deal allows the company to produce ‘Star Wars’ themed slot racing toys based the whole of the ‘Star Wars’ story, as well as solo models – such as an Ewok speeder bike soon to be released for the Battle of Endor set.
