Airfix has launched an appeal to track down original Airfix artwork to appear at a special exhibition at RAF Hendon, also known as the Royal Air Force Museum in London. Although the model maker already has a number of pieces for the show in summer 2013, it is in need of more.
The exhibition features exclusive paintings that were commissioned to decorate Airfix packaging. Although aircraft is going to be the main focus, other Airfix products will be covered as well, including military vehicles, ships, historical figures, railway subjects and motor cars.
Something that Airfix is particularly interested in tracking down is any artwork by Roy Cross, one of the famous box illustrators at Airfix. After World War II, Roy became a freelance commecial artist and began working at Airfix in the early 1960s. His first illustration was for the Dornier Do-217 but he went on to paint numerous stunning pieces throughout the '60s and '70s. His last commission from Airfix was the Prinz Eugen in 1974.
