An amazing Mettoy/Corgi collection sold!

The Mettoy/Corgi "Ullmann Family Collection" featured as the last collection of the day in the Vectis 11th September Specialist sale. The 128 lots were of significant importance to the collecting world as they were consigned by the grandson of the founder of Mettoy/Corgi, Philipp Ullmann.

Charles Ullmann began his collection, along with his brother, in the 1950s and continued up until the 1980s – it contained many preproduction and rare models, straight from the factory floor.

The provenance of these lots proved a big draw for collectors far and wide and with both internet terminals and three phones working at full capacity the bids came in thick and fast.

Unfortunately the gold plated Aston Martin failed to reach its reserve but there were some nice surprises in store for the vendor as many lots made top estimate and above.

The sale started with some nice gift sets and counter displays, their condition and rarity ensured they achieved over estimate with the Corgi No GS40 "Batman" Gift Set achieving £840 from a room bidder, whilst a Corgi Juniors No E4526 (56046) Counter Display Dispenser "Batman" realised £768 and a sealed Corgi Juniors No.E4540 (56067) "Crime Fighters" Counter Display Dispenser achieved the same.

The preproduction and colour trial models also attracted a number of bids with a Corgi No 330 pre-production colour trial Porsche Carrera 6 in pale green achieved £960 from a £500-£600 estimate and a Corgi Juniors (Husky Models) pre-production Mercedes 220 careered through its £50-£60 estimate to reach £744.
Some of the unboxed groups saw some competitive bidding again, between telephone and internet bidders, with a Corgi (Husky Models) group featuring a "James Bond" Aston Martin DB5 realising £696 from an estimate of £70-£80.

Overall the sale achieved over £21,000, just over its £15,000 - £20,000 estimate, despite the fact the gold plated Aston Martin DB5 didn’t reach its reserve. All prices include Buyers Premiums.
