Airfix has announced it's working on a brand new 1/24 scale plastic kit of the Hawker Typhoon, due for release in 2014. The company made the announcement at Scale Model World - one of the biggest celebrations of plastic kits in the world, with more than 10,000 enthuisasts flocking through the doors last weekend. As you can see in the pictures below, the Typhoon includes fantastic cockpit detail, armamet detial and engine detail.

The Hawker Typhoon was a British single-seat fighter-bomber, designed to be a medium to high altitude interceptor, as a direct replacement for the Hawker Hurricane. It was introduced into service into 1941 but the launch was plagued with problems - here's hoping the same won't happen with the replica!

However, despite its rocky start, when the Luftwaffe started using the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 in 1941, the Typhoon was the only RAF fighter capable of catching it at low altitudes and, as a result, it secured a new role as a low-altitude interceptor. There were 3,317 Typhoons produced between 1941 and 1945.
