A Chinese celebration with Wallis & Wallis!

Wallis and Wallis’ recent sale was given over to diecast, railway models, buses and coaches and even the occasional ship and selection of figurines. Amongst the latter was an odd (maker unknown) Chinese bridal party set made of composition, which included sedan chairs, various musicians and lantern bearers. A good time was had by all and the group of 4cm figures (numbering over 30) made £50.

Another unusual toy was a yellow surveillance vehicle, based on the Bedford QL. At 63cm long this impressive toy boasted bags of detail and steerable front wheels. Estimated at £80-120, it finally rolled to a halt at £110. A potential bargain was the pair of Dinky heavyweights: a Foden 14 tonne tanker in dark blue with a light blue flash and Leyland Octopus Wagon in yellow and green. Both were in good condition, came with boxes, and together realised £100.

Top price for the day was paid for the KGR G scale live steam tank locomotive. Made by Roundhouse of Doncaster, it looked the part in its smart green livery. A hinged cab gave access to the pressure gauge and other controls. Exhibiting very few signs of use, this beauty puffed off to achieve £650, comfortably over double the pre-sale guide.
