Hattons announces it is to close its doors
It was with immense sadness that, at the beginning of January, we heard the news of the upcoming closure of Hattons Model Railways, an institution in the hobby since 1946.
In a statement released on 8th January the company stated that it was not insolvent but rather it being wound down in an orderly fashion, leaving no outstanding debts. It cited that changing market conditions had had a large impact on the business, with declining customer numbers, changing customer demographics and supply chain disruption being the main reasons for the decision to cease trading.
An exact date for closure has not been given as of yet, but no further pre-orders will be fulfilled by Hattons, except for some Hattons Originals projects.
