With more than 500 Matchbox 1-75 scale models on offer, bidding was brisk at DJ Auctions’ sale at Newark Showground on Saturday 7th May.

There was strong demand both online and in the room with some closely contested battles for real rarities and old favourites raising many prices above their estimates.

Lot 65, a mint Moko No 11 ERF Road Tanker, in green with gold trim in a mint B box, sold for £720 (pictured above). Another Moke, Lot 164, a near mint No 27 Bedford Low Loader, light blue with dark blue trailer in a near mint B box, went for £520 (pictured below).

A number of models found new homes at £200+ including a mint Moko No 22 Vauxhall Cresta at £240, a Moko No 1 Aveling Barford Road Roller, a Lesney No 8 Ford Mustang, a Moko No 17 Bedford Removals Van and a Lesney No 75 Ferrari Berlinetta which all sold for £220 each.

A Moko No 38 Karrier Refuse Collector, mint in excellent B box, made £210, while a Lesney No 32 Leyland Aral Tanker, mint in near mint E box, sold for £200.

A promotional King Size K-1 Foden 8-wheel Tipper Truck, with red cab, chassis and hubs with green glass, orange tipper ‘Hoveringham’, mint in near box complete with excellent outer ‘Hoveringham Gravels Ltd’, sold for £180.
