On Saturday 8th October, House of Bears, Bath’s specialist teddy bear shop, will celebrate 100 years of Macmillan Cancer Support by holding the Green Party 2011.

“This is our third event raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and so far, with the help of a very supportive network of customers, we have managed to raise an amazing £1,092.02,” said House of Bears owner, Sue Gardner-Kingshott.

The theme of this year’s fundraiser is ‘Old Timers’ and, with an impressive line-up of British bear artists creating one-of-a-kind bears and an exclusive House of Bears teddy created by Merrythought, the 2011 Green Party is sure to raise a substantial amount for the charity.

Among the artists donating exclusive ‘charity bears’ for the event will be Gregory Gyllenship, Christine Pike, Samantha Potter (Mary Myrtle Miniatures), Beatrix Harries (Beatrix Bears), June Kendall (Hardy Bears), Linda Willetts (Hoblins) and Suzi James (Suzi Bear Designs). Additionally, Merrythought has been commissioned to make the House of Bears’ exclusive Macmillan bear for the event this year.

To mark the Macmillan centenary, the special bear has been named after the charity’s founder, Douglas Macmillan. Based on a Farnell design, ‘Douglas’ is a limited edition of just 18 pieces. He is made of sparse gold mohair, is fully jointed and measures approximately 10.5in tall. A definite ‘old-timer’, he looks rather smart with his blue and green tartan bow.

Douglas is priced at £99 with 10% from the sale of each bear going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

He is available to pre-order either by contacting House of Bears direct on 01225 443091 or via its website: www.houseofbears-bath.co.uk

Other attractions include party bags, a ‘name the bear competition’ and a raffle with the chance to win a stunning miniature bear created by Samantha Potter, the award-winning miniature bear artist of Mary Myrtle Miniatures fame.

PICTURED ‘Douglas’, a House of Bears exclusive bear, was created by Merrythought and named in honour of Macmillan Cancer Support’s founder, Douglas Macmillan.
