Scale model producers Tekno and Tonkin Replicas Europe have announced that they have formed a strategic alliance.  Both companies are active worldwide and make diecast scale models of Trucks, Trailers, Cranes and Earthmoving Machinery in 1/50 scale. The aim of the collaboration is to make the most of the opportunities in the die-cast industry. The main advantages are to be found in joint tooling and licencing projects, with a strong focus on return on investment.

Starting out in 1928 in a basement in Copenhagen, Tekno has grown into a fully-fledged producer of miniature models, gaining respect worldwide. “Nowadays, particularly if we look at the pace at which the truck world implements changes in models, we have to look for collaborations that make us stronger, just like the 1:1 manufacturers. The partnership with Tonkin creates a world wide sales and service alliance with immediate effect, which improves our situation in the market and offers advantages for our licensors" commented Maarten van Buuren, Tekno General Manager.

Tonkin Replicas has been active for more than 30 years, mainly in America and in Europe since the beginning of last year. Joep Hansen is Managing Director of Tonkin Replicas Europe: “The brands Tekno and Tonkin complement each other seamlessly, which provides us with synergy advantages.  We’re thinking of joint tooling projects as well as adjusting and standardising production processes. With the production costs in China still on the increase this is definitely the best way to keep things economically interesting, with the collectors and industrial customers as the big winners!”

Having had the pleasure of meeting both Maarten and Joep in recent months, they are both incredibly passionate about their products so this is an interesting and exciting union which makes perfect sense, even more so in the current market conditions. The first fruits of the new alliance were on display at the recent Nuremberg International Toy Fair and we look forward to many more!
