Victorian steam power meets hi-tech science in LEGO's new Master Builder series. ...
LEGO is preparing to launch a Steampunk-inspired model kit, causing the world of geekdom to implode with excitement. Just in case you're not aware of the latest trends in geek chic, steampunk is a popular area of historial science fiction set in the Victorian period, in which scientists create all-manner of incredible technology using just steam power - imagine H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds and you're on the right track.

As revealed in the recent catalogue (thanks for the tip Brick Blogger) the steampunk-inspired builds will be part of the Master Builder series. LEGO Master Builder Academy is a series of kits that are released to help LEGO fans learn new techniques that Master Builders use. Although currentlly only available in America, the sets regularly crop up on eBay so UK steampunk fans will be able to get their hands on a kit.

Here's the description from the latest catalogue: "LEGO Master Builders merge the futuristic idea of time travel with the clockwork gears and puffing steam engines of the Victorian 1800’s – Steampunk! Steampunk is a science fiction art form that imagines the future as people might have in the past. Let it inspire all kinds of new ideas, and pick up some tips from professional LEGO designers on how to make your creations look futuristic, industrial or just plain cool!"

Along with the Steampunk-inspired inventions (such as a hover-mobile and mad science ray) the Master Builder Academy - Invention Designer Level 4 also includes pieces to make classical buildings and vehicles created by Leonardo Da Vinci. There's been a persistent rumour that the Master Builder Academy will eventually come to the UK but so far there's been no concrete release date. Here's hoping LEGO sorts something out soon because we would love to see them over here.
