R2-D2 has got to be one of the most famous on-screen robots there is. Not even the likes of Twiki from Buck Rogers or Johnny Five of Short Circuit fame can compare to Luke Skywalker's bin-shaped mechanical pal. Over the years there have been numerous toys based on the charismastic droid, including action figures, remote-controlled 'bots and even radios.

A while ago, Hasbro (who now owns the Star Wars license) launched the new Black Series of action figures. These high-end figures are slightly larger than their 3 3/4" counterparts and have certainly been attracting the attention of collectors. Of course, with a new range of figures, Hasbro simply couldn't resist the temptation to create a new R2-D2 and he was among the first new figures.

Well, thanks to our friend Toy Polloi, we've got a review of the latest R2-D2 to hit the shelves but if vintage droids are the ones you're looking for, then there's a handy tip to help you restore an older figure... it's a bit like that scene when C-3PO and R2-D2 end up in the Jawa's Sand Crawler.
