Solid Gold LEGO Brick up for Sale

An incredibly rare solid gold LEGO brick, weight 25.65g and made of 14K gold has come up for sale on Brick Envy, a site that specialises in offering fans the opportunity to snap up rare LEGO pieces. The gold example is the same size as a standard 2x4 LEGO brick but if you want to buy this piece of history it's going to cost you a cool $14,449.99 (around £9,000).

According to the site the "incedibly rare piece was given to LEGO employees that had 25 years of employment at the Hohenwestedt, Germany factory and was also given to couple of very special business partners of LEGO of the time. It was only given out from about 1979-1981, only one or two per year from my understanding".

Obviously the incredible rarity of this item adds a huge amount to the value because at today's rate, if the gold was melted down, it would only be worth around £500!
