A rare specially commissioned Superman comic is expected to realise between £1,000 and £2,000 when sold at Catherine Southon Auctioneers and Valuers on 20th November. The one-off comic - called This Island Bradman - was commissioned by British property tycoon Godfrey Bradman in 1988 for his son's 13th birthday and Bar Mitzvah.

Bradman paid £10,000 to get the DC Comics team to make a special edition featuring his son, some friends and family. The comic was written by David Levin, drawn by Curt Swan and inked by Angelo Torres. It is estimated that around 200 copies were printed and given to friends and family. Among DC Comics collectors, this example is seen as the most specialised custom created comic made by the team and is being sold by a former Bradman employee.

Catherine Southon, said: “It is always particularly exciting when you see something at a valuation day and you can immediately tell how special it was when it was created and how valuable it is now. It was fascinating to research the background of the comic and to realise how important it is to comic collectors around the world.”
