Tinplate robot makes a stir as it is set to go under the hammer at McTear’s Auctioneers
A rare Masudaya Gang of Five Radicon Robot is making a bit of a stir as it is set to go under the hammer at McTear’s Auctioneers in Glasgow next month.
This rare toy came to light during a mixed discipline public valuation day in Edinburgh recently and was consigned by a lady who remembered (carefully!) playing with it as a child. It had been lovingly kept within the same family for the last fifty years.
Overall condition is good, some small isolated paint losses, dust and dirt to central compartment but nothing major or structural - the robot doesn’t have the original antenna unfortunately but unusually two of the coloured antennae for the controller are present in green and blue.
It is a ‘holy grail’ moment for any collector, enthusiast or toy valuer to discover an original Gang of Five skirted robot, especially on these shores, and it could be a very special - and dramatic - moment when it’s offered on the rostrum.
