For the first time ever two exceptionally rare Dinky Toys Delivery Van sets are going under the hammer in the same auction. The sale in question is taking place at Special Auction Services in Newbury on 19th November and specialist toy expert Hugo Marsh is particularly excited about the opportunity for collectors.

These two pre-war sets were first released 80 years ago. The first (numbered A1008) contains: 28a Hornby Trains, 28b Pickfords, 28c Manchester Guardian, 28d OXO, 28e Ensign Lukos and 28f Palethorpes Sausages. While the second (also numbered A1008, confusingly) has 28g Kodak, 28h Sharp’s Toffees, 28k Marsh & Baxter, 28L Crawford’s Biscuits, 28m Wakefield’s Castrol and 28n Meccano.

“To my knowledge these two sets have never been offered together in the same auction,” explained specialist Hugo Marsh. “They are from the collections of two very fine collectors, John Westcombe and Julien Loffet, both of who sadly died recently. Each set is estimated at £8,000 to £10,000.”
