The immortal 911 made its first appearance at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, although it can trace its origins to initial sketches made by Ferdinand Porsche in 1959.

Initially designated “901” (its internal project number), the first models were made with this nomenclature but due to Peugeot’s protected numbering system, cars would have to be sold in France under a different number. Rather than confuse the issue, Porsche switched to using “911” everywhere.

In response to the oil crisis in 1973, Porsche’s mighty Carrera RS was deemed too thirsty so the 1974 2.7 litre models were fitted with Bosch K-Jetronic injection, which dramatically improved fuel consumption with little effect on road going performance.

There is no doubt that Porsche’s racing success with the 3.0 litre Carrera RS model went a long way to proving the old “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” adage was true and the tamed 1974 Carreras certainly didn’t suffer in the sales department as a result of the concessions made to combat the effects of the oil shortages that sent shockwaves around the world.

The model
GT Spirit’s rendering of those classic 911 lines are an absolute joy to behold. Even with the mid-1970s US-led bumper arrangement, this is still a very pretty car.

The copper paint finish on the one-piece resin casting is absolutely flawless. The colour chosen is perfect and really stands out without shouting from the roof tops, making this a very elegant model.

Nothing opens but that means that the shut lines have been modelled to perfection and the beautiful glass allows plenty of interior viewing anyway.

The iconic Fuchs wheels are definitely worthy of a mention, including the tyre valves, as are the headlights with the correct lens pattern visible - fantastic detail!

The Carrera (which means race) was a winner on the track and it’s a winner here too.

Gorgeous from any angle, GT Spirit has done a superb job on the body shape, Absolutely spot on.

Front view (above) and rear/side views (both below): all modelled to perfection.

The Fuchs wheels are stunning, right down to the tyre valve!

Fantastic headlight lens and bumper detail!
