Some breaking news this afternoon - ModelZone, the specialist hobbyist retailer that went into administration earlier this year, has returned to the high street thanks to WHSmith. Details are in short supply at the moment but according to the ModelZone Twitter account a brand new ModelZone department has opened within the Union Street, Birmingham branch of WHSmith today and more are set to follow!

Nine ModelZone departments are due to open within WHSmith locations by 23rd November, includng Cardiff, Croydon, Gateshead Metro, Glasgow Sauchiehall, Kingston Upon Thames, London White City, Manchester Arndale, Meadowhall and Reading. As for what they're selling, so far we only know they'll have "all the favourite brands" including Hornby, Airfix, Minichamps, Tamiya, Scalextric, Revell, Corgi, Bachmann, Syma and Oxford Diecast.

We've put a call in to WHSmith and are expecting some more details but, in the meantime, we're delighted to see the ModelZone name returning to the high street, even if it is in a smaller form! Please get in touch if you manage to visit one of these new departments and tell us what they're like. To remind yourself about the sad demise of ModelZone in June, take a look at some of our previous coverage of the ModelZone administration.
