Thanks to bright sunny weather, over 1,800 visitors and stallholders were treated to a busy and interesting day. Among the attractions were a fine line up of 1920s London Buses, ranging from the 1922 Tillings Stevens petrol electric (hybrids are nothing new!) and S454, together with a Leyland Chocolate Express and a Dennis D142, both dating from 1924. Also included in the line up was the London Transport Museum’s B2737 making a welcome appearance in 1914-18 wartime “Ole Bill” livery.
Throughout the day there were regular trips using RT1 to Hampton Court and an Eastern Counties Bristol MW from the Ensign’s Heritage fleet provided excursions to Guildford. Visitors who wanted to stay on site could take a horse drawn bus trip and there were other family attractions included Punch and Judy shows and a 1920s Jazz band.
Launched at the event, as reported on Collectors Club of Great Britain last month, the LBM's exclusive Jotus model of CR47, the Leyland rear engine Cub, in London Transport Central Area red livery on route 213 to Sutton LT Garage, achieved good sales, with just a small number still available, together with the Jotus RM60 event model of FRM1. Both can be ordered from the Museum on-line shop (www.lbmshop.com) together with a range of other items to suit the bus enthusiast.
