LEGO has announced that the next model in its LEGO Cuusoo range will be an ECTO-1 and minifigure collection to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film Ghostbusters. This fantastic model was designed by LEGO fan Brent Waller and chosen by fellow plastic brick fans.

The Ghostbusters model came top in LEGO's Fall 2013 review, in which a board of designers, product managers and team members carefully inspected the concept.

Progress on the official release is now "well into development" with LEGO expected to release the ECTO-1 vehicle, along with minifigures of characters from the film: Peter Venkman, Ray Stanz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore, along with greedy green ghost Slimer. With 2014 marking the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters, this LEGO set should certainly become very collectable.

The Cuusoo site allows enthusiasts to create their own suggestions for LEGO sets before uploading them to the website, then the community votes on projects they would like to be officially released by LEGO. Those that receive 10,000 votes are then considered by the company and, if they meet the criteria, they become officially LEGO sets.

In other LEGO Cuusoo news, the company has announced that in its upcoming review, it will consider a design based on the BBC's popular Sherlock series. The project has everything you need to act out your favourite scenes from 221B Baker Street, including a replica of the flat and characters from the show.

Meanwhile, a spectacular recent addition to the site is a fantastic LEGO version of Professor X's Mansion from the X-Men comics. The detail in this piece is absolutely remarkable and it already has more than 4,000 supporters. We're keeping our fingers crossed it becomes a reality.
