Hornby Hobbies has moved back to its former home at Westwood in Margate.

Hornby Hobbies has moved back to its former home at Westwood in Margate. Hornby moved its distribution centre to Hersden in 2014 and offices to Discovery Park near Sandwich in 2015, ending a period of more than 60 years in Margate. The company’s popular Visitor Centre, however, has remained at the site throughout.

Marketing Director, Simon Kohler, who began his career with the company in the early 1970s at the Margate site, commented that it was “a return to the true home of Hornby”. He continued, “This is positive stuff, it is back to the future and we believe Margate is the home of Hornby. It oozes the creative juices of what Hornby is now and will be in the future.”

Hornby moves back in alongside a new neighbour - Locomotive Storage Limited, which bought the whole site for £2.25million in February 2017. Locomotive Storage provides storage for locomotives and rolling stock, such as Class A4 “Bittern”, which arrived in June. Mr Kohler added: “It is terrific. Visitors will be able to see the real thing and see how the models are designed and then buy their own.”

The Visitor Centre is really worth a visit, but is currently undergoing maintenance and improvements, re-opening on 8th March 2019. To find out more, visit the website at www.hornby.com/visitorcentre.
