Full steam ahead

The Vectis Model Train sale on 24 March featured a host of lots of interest to the railway enthusiast.

A gauge 1 live steam 0-6-0 Tank loco in blue GER (Great Eastern Railway) livery was an interesting example and had possibly been scratchbuilt from commercial parts. It contained two external and three internal cylinders, with many brass components, and was set off with good cab detail, including a Stewart pressure gauge. Described as requiring some work and in fair to good condition, it nonetheless realised £620.

Slightly less money was bid for an 1895 Marklin O Gauge Train Set. This included a clockwork 0-2-2 loco and tender, hand painted in green, black, red and gold; it was cast with Marklin (GM&C) to the boiler sides. On one side the dummy cylinder was missing, while soldering repairs to both chimney and front cab area were noted. The tender was finished in green and black with orange lining and the four-wheeled rolling stock included an open wagon in grey, green and brown with orange lining; a covered wagon in yellow, brown and black, together with a passenger coach in red, green and black, which was lined in yellow. Included with the lot was a small quantity of two-rail clockwork track.
