If you have a need for speed, then a selection of results from C&T Auctions’ July sale is likely to get your blood pumping because a number of high-speed models from Dinky raced to the finish line.

Pole position went to a Dinky Toys No.220/23A trade box of models, including six silver/red racing cars displaying racing number four. All were in mint condition and were contained in their original yellow trade box. Noted as being a “very nice set in excellent condition” the trade pack realised £300, which was £50 over the low estimate.

Up next was a scarce Dinky Toys No.201 Racing Cars Set containing No.240 Cooper, No.241 Lotus, No.242 Ferrari and No.243 BRM, along with two mechanics, starter with chequered flag and commentator with microphone. The models were in near mint condition, while the box was fair because of age wear and had tears in the acetate window. Estimated at £180 to £200, the speedometer kept climbing to £270.

Even individual pieces were racing off the auctioneer’s rostrum, as proved by a rare Dinky Toys No.234 Ferrari Racing Car. Finished with a blue body, yellow triangle on its nose and yellow plastic wheel hubs, it was in near mint unboxed condition. Estimated at £60 to £80, it realised a fantastic £120.
