Airfix Archive to go on sale at Vectis Auctions Images

Vectis Auctions has just sent over last minute details of some exciting additions to its sale on 6th November, which now features a fantastic selection of rare Airfix items, including very early and iconic 1960s kits, seldom seen American issues, rare HO/OO figures play sets and lots more!

One of the highlights in the sale is a piece of a original artwork by Roy Cross. It's a gouache painting for the box top of the 1968 release: 1/700 scale German Battleship Tirpitz. The image measures 27" x 15" (the largest Roy Cross Artwork ever sold by Vectis) on Artists Fine Surface Art Board & depicts the Tirpitz under attack on 22nd August, 1944 by Carrier Launched Aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm.

Presented as a leaving gift to a member of the Airfix Art Department it has been kept in a secure art folder since, the image therefore is as bright & vibrant as the day it was finished. Acknowledged by Cross himself to be one of his finest works commissioned by Airfix. This impressive piece of artwork is estimated at £9,500 - 15,000.

Another nice piece of Airfix artwork is an airbrush painting for the 1989 release: BAC Jet Provost T5 / Strikemaster by Airfix artist James Goulding. The image measures 19" x 11" on Artists Fine Surface Art Board.

Accompanying the artwork is an initial production Provost kit the lid of which has been signed by Goulding. Some minor age wear to margins however the image is mint.

The Military, Civilian Figures, Equipment and Accessories  auction takes place on 6th November from 10.30am. To view the catalogue, head to the Vectis website.
