This is an excerpt of the Poole Model Toy and Train fair report first published in Collectors Gazette's June issue. To see which issues of Collectors Gazette are available to buy, click here.

The Model Toy and Train Fair in Poole, Dorset, is held in the Poole Grammar School, Gravel Hill near Broadstone, on the A349. The show has been at this venue for many years and has become a popular attraction for collectors in the area.

There were 50 traders with 66 stalls supporting the show. There was the usual mixture of goodies for sale and, overall, there was a great deal of stock available.

Just inside the main hall I came across Colin Jackson who is based in Andover but covers a number of the shows in the wider area. He has been supporting the Poole show for about three years and describes his stock as mixed diecast – mainly Dinky Toys and Corgi, though I did notice a few Spot-On models, too.

Most of Colin’s stock is well presented, unboxed but he did have a very good, boxed Corgi Commer Constructor Set. It was priced up at £80 and could have easily tempted one of the many visitors. This gift set is always a bit of a puzzle for me as the illustration, the models and the concept of the set are all outstanding but yet the price of the set has not risen in line with other Corgi Gift Sets.

Next event: 5th June.
