'Star Trek' memorabilia sells well at recent auction

‘Star Trek’ fans recently had the opportunity to bid on a host of original props from the much-loved TV series. Following the Heritage Auction Galleries’ recent sale of Captain James T Kirk’s uniform, mentioned in the Gazette last month, this recent ‘Star Trek’ auction, organised by Propworx and CBS Consumer Product, saw high realisations for many of the unique prop items, proving there is no letting up in the popularity of the legendary sci-fi franchise.

Highlights of the sale included a mock computer screen prop from the bridge of the original 1960s Enterprise spaceship, which sold for $14,000. A Federation tunic worn by George Takei (who played Sulu in the original series) fetched $4,000 in the sale and a Captain Kirk spacesuit filming miniature from ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’ fetched a stellar $8,000.

One fan even managed to walk away with Mr Spock’s most distinguishable features, his ears. A pair of the Vulcan science officer’s prosthetic pointy ears, worn by actor Leonard Nimoy during the original series, fetched a logical $3,000.

“There were items at every price range for Star Trek fans,” said Shelley Oliver Littleton, Director of Marketing for Propworx. “We wanted to ensure that every fan, no matter what level of income or auction experience, could bid live or online and be assured that every item was fully researched and authenticated in detail and backed by the experience of our team of  specialists.”
