This year's Trade Model and Hobby Show was held on 13th-14th March at the Coventry Transport Museum. Denise Burrows went along to see what organisers, Bachmann, had in store for train collectors over the next 12 months as well as viewing the new ranges of W. Britains toy figures plus the diecast ranges from First Gear and EFE.

Starting with diecast models, new castings announced for June release from EFE included the single deck Y Type, bus version, plus new Bristol VR castings in Midland Alexander, Ribble and Southern Vectis, Isle of Wight liveries. PICTURED Urban scenes come to life with Bachmann’s Scene-craft range, shown here is the cinema, Railway Hotel and fondly-remembered Beatties shop.

Also of interest were the First Gear construction models which Bachmann has now secured UK distribution rights on. Particularly eye-catching was the 1/50 scale Komatsu 960E-2K Dump Truck due for release in the autumn plus the D475A-5EO Dozer with Ripper, also in 1/50 scale. Moving on to toy figures and I was pleased to hear all about the new WWI collection coming soon from Britains. Also planned for release this year are two new infantry sections to accompany the artillery one released last year and more trenches and German infantry are on their way too. Not forgetting, of course, the splendid new Diamond Jubilee limited edition collectables (details can be found on page 14 this issue), and the various Redcoats, Napoleonic, Zulu War, Civil War and Museum Collection pieces to come. The Bachmann stand seemed busy all day with everyone wanting a glimpse of the brand new ranges for 2012. The team were on hand to answer our queries and Bachmann was reporting a record trading year for 2011 despite the economic downturn. Among many new releases, four more steam locos will be added to the Branchline range in OO gauge over the next 18 months including the first ever Scottish prototype, LNER D11-2 Scottish Director 4-4-0, plus further classic locos including LNER J11 0-6-0 ‘Pom Pom’, Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway 2-4-2T and Midland Railway Fowler 4F 0-6-0. Adding to the successful N gauge Graham Farish ranges will be the SR Merchant Navy (streamlined) 4-6-2 plus a new LNER A2 Class and LMS Princess Coronation 4-6-2 (non streamlined) plus much more.
