When Porsche dipped its thoroughbred toe into the murky waters outside of pure sports car production, the results brought a mixed response.

With its four-wheel-drive Cayenne, the Stuttgart massive provided a ‘Chelsea Tractor’ for affluent families who want to make the school run in style. Diehards, though, saw this as sacrilegious, in that Porsche had dropped the ball and veered away from what it did best… building road-munching super cars.

Now, the company has sought to placate its brand-lovers with a luxury, but power-filled sedan; a sort of half-way house. The Panamera Turbo possesses passing bodily characteristics of the Carrera, turns in a whopping 188mph, and can reach 62mph in 4.2 seconds courtesy of its 4.8 litre V8.

All four doors open to reveal a plush, stone-coloured interior, which provides a pleasing background to the instruments and gear stick unit, both highly detailed.

There’s a tinted sun roof and great seatbelts, realistic dash cover with stitching, and excellent lights. Red brake pad housings stand out through the racy alloys, betraying the marque’s sporty heritage.

Lift the bonnet and you are treated to a convincing rendition of the growling V8. At the rear, the boot is just as luxurious, with its vast, moveable parcel shelf.
