Hornby – OO gauge LNER A3 Class ‘Flying Scotsman’ USA Tour limited edition train pack (R2953)
Following its successful version of the famous A3 Class in its preserved livery, Hornby has now produced the locomotive in the form it took during its tour of America in 1969. The model features the twin tenders which were used at the time (the first for coal, the second for water) as all water troughs had long since been removed from the national network and this would avoid unnecessary water stops. The train pack also includes one of the former ‘Devon Belle’ observation cars, which was also shipped over as part of the train. Limited to 2,000 pieces, the model is priced at £164.99.

A4 Class No 60024 ‘Kingfisher’ features in the next train pack in the Barry J Freeman collection, where one of the artist’s paintings (a print of which is enclosed) is replicated by the pack. The models represent the early years of British Railways when the locomotive was painted ‘express passenger’ blue and the coaching stock still remains in LNER teak but with BR numbering. Two third class corridors and one composite brake coaches are supplied, all priced £220 and limited to 1,000 models.
