With the advancing techniques of the time, Bentley produced its luxury S1 from 1955 to 1959.

The standard steel saloon was manufactured with stressed skin construction, but with certain bodywork sections in aluminium. It replaced Bentley’s R-Type saloon, which had already been built since 1946, and ushered in a greater level of space (the wheelbase was three inches longer and the build was lower without reducing headroom). There was also a bigger boot.

Oxford has chosen to portray the Continental version of the S1, with its lighter fixed head (drophead versions of the real car were also available at a thumping 50% extra). The elegant lines are notable, and ably show the delectable marriage of an oppulent front, with trademark large grille, and the fastback-style rear. Anyone driving this car would have been considered a real player.
