DJ Auctions’ sale on Saturday 12th February at Newark saw some determined bidding for Corgi, Dinky Toys and Matchbox diecast vehicles with particularly strong interest in the Superfast Matchbox models. The auction, held at the Sir Stuart Goodwin Hall, was well attended and also saw plenty of online bidding.

The star item of the auction was a Superfast Matchbox No 45 Ford Group 6 Racer, in non-metallic green, which sold for £750. Also in this section was an unboxed, light brown No 46 Beales Bealson van which sold for £440.

A No 8 Ford Mustang, in orange red with a red interior, sold for £220, while a No 24 Team Matchbox in metallic blue with white driver made £190. A No 44 Refrigeration Truck, red with sea green back, went for £130 to an online bidder. Two US edition Matchbox catalogues for 1961 and 1962 sold for £150.

COMING UP: Some 400 Matchbox models will feature in DJ Auctions’ next sale on 7th May, including some rare examples such as an orange regular wheel No 8 Ford Mustang, a green No 11 Road Tanker, a grey-barrelled No 26 Foden Cement Mixer and the spoked hubs No 41 Ford GT Racing. The latter is the first example of this model that DJ Auctions has offered for sale. Another unusual model is an unboxed Benbros River Series Drain Wagon. Patrick Doidge of DJ Auctions commented: “This is the first of these I have seen.”
