A mixture of lots went under the hammer at a recent Collectables Auction held by Warwick and Warwick in October. ...

There was standing room only at the Collectables Auction held by Warwick and Warwick in October. The sale was held in two separate rooms, with coins and banknotes, medals and militaria in one room and toys, model soldiers, model railways, model kits and diecast in another. Both rooms were very busy, with bidders eager to find a space where they could.

Richard Beale began his auction at 2pm with Lot 1012 – a collection of Batman collectables in varying condition. While the lot went unsold, it was in the minority as most lots went on to reach their estimates and, in some cases, sell for higher values.

When the auction progressed to the model railway section, the room burst into action, with a fierce bidding war erupting between two determined bidders. Lot 1076, a collection of Bachmann locomotives from the 1990s and 2000s, sold for £900 – £500 higher than its estimate (prices quoted exclude buyer’s premium and VAT). Lot 1110, a collection of Hornby locomotives and tenders from the 1990s and 2000s, sold for £750 – more than double its estimate.

Towards the end of the sale, in the diecast section, £1,300 bought 43 Matchbox 1-75 Series models, including a Road Roller tan driver No 1b; this was again double its estimate. A telephone bidder bought this lot as well as the following two; although not in the room, the bidder was very determined, with the prices realised for all three lots well over their estimates.
