The Dandy comic came into being on the 4th December 1937 and revolutionised the way children's publications would look forever, moving away from tabloid publications with big chunks of text to a smaller (magazine) size with easy-to-read speech balloons. Through the years The Dandy has launched many favourite characters; Korky the Cat, Desperate Dan and Keyhole Kate. Yet as children's tastes have changed, The Dandy has introduced new characters, such as Beryl the Peril and Bananaman, to keep up its appeal. By 2004 slaes of the comic had fallen to dangerous levels, but with the introduction of fun and colourful free gifts The Dandy managed to regain some of its lost ground to compete with modern publications.
