Australia Post to issue 'Love' special occasion stamps
A heart and a red rose, both universal symbols of love, will feature on the latest Australia Post special occasion stamps, issued on the run up to Valentine's Day.
Illustrator Gary Domoney has used a simple colour pallette to allow the theme of love to take centre stage, with a grey and white $1 heart stamp and a red rose $1 value with its stem slightly overlapping the word 'Australia'.
For centuries, the two symbols have been used to portray love. The thirteenth-century French poem Roman de la Rose linked this flower with romance, and centuries later, Scottish bard Robert Burns compared his love to a 'red, red, rose' in a poem which is loved the world over.
Both stamps are also available as a first day cover and maxicard, and the heart design is also available as a wedding sheetlet pack. For more information, visit the Australia Post website.
