The year 2018 will be Year of the Dog on the Chinese Lunar calendar, and Perth Mint have issued a report and video about their new Year of the Dog gold and silver coins.

The silver proof coin features a German Shepherd, whilst a Labrador Retriever is featured on the gold coin; the coins are 99.9% silver and 99.9% gold respectively.

The German Shepherd

Consistently ranked as one of the most popular breeds in the world, the German shepherd, also known as the Alsatian, was originally developed for herding sheep. Intelligent, obedient and highly trainable, it is now most strongly associated with police and military work.

Labrador retriever

labrador retriever is an attractive, gentle, yet highly capable breed. Naturally gifted in many ways of assistance to humans, it is perhaps best known for its skill as a guide dog for the blind.
