The Vista Cruiser was a station wagon manufactured and marketed by Oldsmobile from 1964 to 1977.

The first and second generation Vista Cruisers are noted for their fixed-glass, roof-mounted skylights over the second-row seating with sun visors for the second row passengers, a raised roof behind the skylight and lateral glass panels over the rear cargo area along the raised roof - and three rows of forward-facing passenger seating.

Based on the Oldsmobile Cutlass platform and sharing its main body style with the Buick Sport Wagon, the first generation of the Vista Cruiser was introduced in February 1964.

There was a major restyling for 1968 to herald the arrival of the second generation and in 1970, an exterior redesign sharpened edges and curves until the car was resdesigned again for the 1972 model year.

Best of Show has chosen to model one of the last of these simply beautiful 2nd gen cars and the results are truly gorgeous.

The first thing that strikes you is the choice of colour - a very subtle shade of gold, not garish at all and nicely understated. The classic seventies styling is outstandingly replicated and the chrome detailing is astonishing. I really can't find fault with this and I think this is borne out by the fact that you could begin to believe that the photographs are of a real car. The only thing that makes me realise that I can't get in it and drive it away is that, being a resin-cast, the doors don't open. A deserved Editor's Choice don't you think?
