The second generation Charger was launched in 1968 and continued until 1970. What defined a Charger as an R/T was basically the larger engines fitted, either a Mopar 440 or 426 Hemi qualified the car for the extra nomenclature.
Dodge's second generation Charger became a bit of a television and film star and is probably best known for its appearances as the General Lee in The Dukes of Hazzard, but it also played a starring role in Steve McQueen's epic car chase fest around San Francisco and its environs that is Bullitt.
Maisto has modelled this popular muscle car very well indeed. Largely diecast with some plastic and rubber detailed parts, it has packed in a lot of value with opening features (doors, bonnet and boot) all affording views of some rather nice detailing. The engine compartment and boot are good but the main interior really sets this apart from other of a similar price point, with a realistically detailed dashboard, seats and steering wheel particularly worthy of note.
Also deserving a special mention is the eye-catching shade of lime green chosen for this version (it looks amazing alongside its older sibling in bright orange, released last year). The bodywork is topped off with a vinyl-effect finish to the roof and rear pillars and the famous R/T banding across the rear of the car.
The car sits on some fabulously fat looking rubber tyres, detailed with tyre paint to pick out the brand of course. The model certainly makes a bold statement and is very well priced indeed.
