The 1953 Carrera Panamericana was the fourth running of the Mexican sports car racing event and took place from 19th-23rd November over eight stages totalling 3,077 kilometres  (1,912 miles) from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, to Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.

Entered and driven by British-born Mexican TV & film actress, Jacqueline Evans (full name Jacqueline Evans de López), this Porsche 356 failed to finish but so striking was the livery that it is one of the most memorable cars to have taken part during the event's five-year history. Evans was the only female driver that year and also the only one to compete in all five events between 1950 and 1954, finishing 45th overall in 1950 and 35th in 1952.

Solido's model is truly astonishing and I fell in love with it the moment I saw it at the Nuremberg Toy Fair earlier this year, so just had to buy one!

The graphics are exquisite and perfectly applied to a flawless paint job, no small task given the complex compound curves involved in places. Both doors open to reveal a lovely interior that reflects the simplicity of the original car very well indeed.

And just look at that price! Bargain of the year?
