Produced from 1956 to 1962, Ford's Zodiac Mark II was aimed squarely at the mid- to large-sized family car market. Very closely related to the Zephyr Mark II of the same era (the Zodiac was basically a more luxuriously-appointed version of the same car, with two-tone paintwork, plus other upgrades), it came in the four-door saloon we see modelled here, as well as both estate and convertible body styles - the range proved to be very popular indeed.

Restyled from the respective Mark I predecessors in 1956, the 6-cylinder engines were enlarged to 2,553cc, with power output correspondingly increasing to 86 bhp. The wheelbase was increased by 3 inches, to 107, and the width increased to 69 inches. Weight distribution and turning circle were also improved, and top speed increased to 88 mph. Despite the bigger engine and more power, thanks to design improvement, fuel consumption also improved.

Replicated by Cult Scale Models in high-quality resin at 1/18 scale, with plenty of photo-etched parts, this is one of two simultaneous releases of this car by the company, with CML085-1 coming in a rather fetching green over beige.

The body shape is absolutely sublime, with an equally impressive paint finish. The chrome and photo-etched parts are beautifully balanced, making for an incredibly realistic-looking model, and one that will be a wonderful addition to your collection - fitting very well into both the classic Ford and 1950s arenas.

Being a resincast, so no opening parts, shutlines are very accurately modelled. The interior is very visible, thanks to the original car's expanse of glazing, and detailing is very good indeed.

A truly lovely model of this wonderful classic.
