Did you watch the new series of Sherlock Holmes on New Year's Day? It was a belting opening to the latest series and it's fantastic to have the world's greatest detective back on our screens. However, for fans of model railways, perhaps one of the more interesting scenes was the one featuring the London Underground worker who had a very nice layout in his living room.

Well, did you know that Hornby was actually asked to provide that particular layout? In March 2013, Hornby was asked to supply a track layout and locomotives for the scene in the third series and travelled up to Cardiff to set up the scene. Unfortunately, the layout was only on camera for a matter of moments but as you can see from these behind-the-scenes snaps, Hornby went to a lot of effort to make it look as good as possible.

To celebrate the fact, Hornby is giving away the RailRoad 4-6-2 'Tornado' Peppercorn Class A1 as seen in the episode. If you're interested in picking up this star of television (well, kind of), just check the Hornby website. Also, here are a few pictures from the set:
