Single owner collection of Meccano, model trains and tinplate items to go under the hammer

Stacey’s Auctioneers will be selling the Dr David Whitmore Toy Collection at a specialist sale on 2 September. The single owner collection features nearly 800 lots and consists of mainly Meccano, model trains and tinplate items. Dr Whitmore started collecting Meccano before World War Two and never looked back, making and collecting in his cellar at home. As his collection expanded, he picked up unusual tinplate models and Dinky or similar model cars. Some of these were stored reverently in display cases but the vast majority were in simple cardboard boxes. He had at least 4 layouts in the house, excluding the simple track in the garden with all sorts of scenery and elements to add to the interest.

Viewing will be between 10am until 4pm on Saturday 31 September and Sunday 1 September at our offices in 37 Websters Way, Rayleigh, SS6 8JQ.
