Corgi Major Toys Gift Set No.12 Chipperfields Circus sells for £340 Images
There were 100s of lots during Lacy, Scott & Knights Collectors Models sale on May 18th, including a huge range of model railways, diecast toys and other collectable items. However, one of the items that certainly caught our eye was a great example of the Corgi Major Toys Gift Set No. 12 from the popular Chipperfield's Circus range of diecast models.
The set includes Corgi Toys No. 1121 Chipperfield's Crane Truck and No. 1123 Circus Cage - both released in the early 1960s. The example sold at Lacy, Scott & Knight (seen to your right) included both models along with two polar bear models. The hook was still attached to the model crane, while the winch worked smoothly and all the doors were attached - it also came with its original blue/yellow box and contained three packing pieces. As such it was considered to be in very good condition by the auctioneer and roared past its £200-300 pre-sale estimate, to realise £340.

Another neat Corgi item was No. 339 Mini Cooper S Monte Carlo 1967 with a red body, white roof and displaying racing number 177. Also came with two spare wheels on roof rack, cast hubs, jewelled headlights and grille. Included its original box with winners text on red panel, minor blemishes to underside of model and raised edges. Estimated at £180 - 220, it sold for £240.

Up next another racer proved a hit with bidders. The Corgi Toys No. 302 Hillman Hunter with Kangaroo - based on the 1968 London to Sydney Marathon Winner - had a blue body, black bonnet, white roof with spare wheels and came with its plastic kangaroo figure. The model also came with the original 18 'authentic transfers', however these had been applied to the bodywork. It realised £65.

Something a little more unusual but continuing the Corgi theme were two Corgi accessory packs - No. 1501 Racing Drivers and Pit Mechanics, including six figures still attached to their sprues in an unopened blister pack; No. 1502 Silverstone Spectators, also including six figures attached to their sprue and in an unopened pack. The figures certainly stacked up for this lot on the day, as the hammer went down on £65... £35 over the top estimate.
