Vectis, as usual, had a number of auctions recently, which featured a wide array of collectables.
Diecasts dominated and Spot-On was definitely in vogue: an example of Spot-On’s No.802, Tommy Spot Cops 'n Robbers, included a metallic blue Jaguar and a Ford Zephyr Police car. This latter had suffered a broken aerial but the pictorial stand and three figures were all good. Put at an upper limit of £420, the set passed that and realised £744.
The other Spot-On set of note was No.701, the His, Hers, Junior's set. A scarce and hard to find issue, it included three vehicles in generally excellent condition. Estimated at £800-1000, it attracted huge interest and finally settled on an impressive £2,520.
Chasing this was the humble Dinky No.282 Duple Roadmaster Coach, an example in yellow with red flashes, silver trim and mid-blue ridged hubs. Billed as a good plus to excellent example, this hard to find issue sold for a remarkable £600.
People still love Matchbox Models of Yesteryear, if the Y25 1910 Renault Type AG Perrier van was anything to go by. With a bright green body, dark green chassis and white type A roof (with a single central support) and dark red seat, it ran on gold 12 spoke wheels. Near mint in an excellent standard straw issue box, the bidding only fizzled out when it hit £900.
Trains were not neglected, either. A Wrenn W2303 4-6-2 LMS wartime black streamlined Princess Coronation Class No.6237 City of Bristol came with its instruction booklet and instruction flyer sheet. This was one of the locomotives assembled in the Dapol factory after the acquisition of the Wrenn company. Its condition was described as mint and it was presented in a reproduction box. £1,680 was needed to take it home.
Finally, news for the ursine contingent. A Charlie Bears Isabelle Collection Mr Chips teddy bear (SJ 4357), Autumn 2009 and designed by Isabelle Lee, was finished with golden curly mohair with brown backing and had the all-important swing label certificate and carry bag. Estimated at £180-220, he sold for £648. Another Charlie Bears was the Lola panda bear, (SJ 4019A), Spring 2009, LE 55/150. This one was pink with black tip and pale blonde mohair, and complete with bag and certificate. Near mint, he realised £528.
