July saw Vectis host a specialist sale that featured six private owner collections plus further Corgi, Dinky, white metal and resin models.
In the event, TV and cinema tie-ins stole the show. An example of Corgi’s James Bond Aston Martin DB5, with a silver body, was billed as good plus to excellent and came with all the necessary addenda: this drove off to make £360, and would have pleased Q.
The same maker’s Batmobile, in gloss black, with a blue tinted windscreen and with Batman and Robin figures, was pretty much complete too, and carried an estimate of £140-180. However, bidding was fierce and it closed on £480.
And Gerry Anderson? Well, the Dinky 100 Thunderbirds Lady Penelope FAB 1 in lipstick pink with Lady Penelope and Parker figures was near mint and included the often-missing harpoons and rocket. Once again the estimate (£120-140) was low, this delight raced away to achieve £288. Very good, m’lady!
Meanwhile a Dinky 105 Captain Scarlet Maximum Security Vehicle (second issue), finished in white, with a red base and side flashes, ran on Speedwheels, and came with rare (light blue interior), radiation box. It was missing an aerial but that didn’t put bidders off and it sold for £264.
To end: tractors. A Dinky Massey Ferguson Tractor finished in the rare red and with green hubs made a surprising £648.
